Lake: Otatakan - Report: Arrived at Otatakan morning of 9/7/08, stayed 9 days. Weather was bad most of the time with wind, rain, and cold. However, the fishing was awesome with large numbers and some nice fish caught. Below is our daily count and time of fishing. This was one of the best trips ever. It was 3 total people. Largest walleye for the trip 26 inches, largest northern just over 40 inches. Which we caught 3 northerns at or just above 40 inches. 9/7/08, Day 1, Rigged up after we flew in the morning, fished 4 hours. Rain and windy. 94 walleye, 2 northern 9/8/08, Day 2, 7 hours of fishing. Wind and some rain. 146 walleye and 3 northern. Caught 26 inch walleye 9/9/08, Day 3, 8 hours of fishing. Wind and sunny. 136 walleye and 11 northern 9/10/08, Day 4, 8 hours of fishing. Windy, Windy, and cloudy. 173 walleye, 5 northern 9/11/08, Day 5, 8 hours of fishing. I have been flying with Rusty Myers going on thirty years and have fished a good share of the lakes serviced by Rusty Myers. I feel very fortunate to have hade the chance years ago to do my first fly-in fishing trip with Rusty Myers. Over the years working with Angie,Darlyss, Mike and the rest of the staff at Rusty Myers from booking trips to all of the lakes that they have their outpost camps. The service level from the time you arrive at the base in Fort Frances to the thrill of the beautiful flight to any of the outpost camps and the professional pilots like Mike and the other pilots based in Fort Frances. The pilots and Johnnies crew from Savant deserve much credit for the great job they do flying in needed supplies and the service level they provide. A special thanks to Angie and the crew from Savant this past July when we experienced a medical situation while fishing at Wabakimi. Just a short note to thank you and your staff for our great trip of last June. I am a part of the Capozzi - Towns - Hill group. We had perhaps the finest trip I've experienced in the eight consecutive years I've fished in Ontario. This was my Son's second trip. The fish in the picture is his largest walleye. This fish was 27 1/2 inches. He lost a bigger one later in the week. What amazed me was that eleven of thirteen of our group caught walleyes this big or bigger. The largest of the week was 31 inches, almost matching the 32 inch walleye caught last year at Moose Point by our group. My hat is off to you, catch and consume is producing a phenomenal fishery! In retrospect I regret only that with so many PIG WALLEYES and acrobatic smallmouth bass that we failed to target Shikag Lake's northern pike. Anyway a hearty thank you to you and your staff for the twinkle in my eye that is certain to last until we again visit "the only place where time slows down" Moose Point Lodge.
