Welcome to EAR FALLS
"Bald Eagle Capital of North America"

A scenic drive north on Hwy. 105 will bring you to Ear Falls and one step deeper into the wilderness of Northwest Ontario. The topography of the area is characteristic of the Canadian Shield. Fractures and faults in the bedrock have created many elongated lake systems joined by river reaches and drops forming cascading waterfalls. Four large river systems: the English, Chukuni, Cedar, and Wenasaga Rivers, each flowing through a chain of lakes, meet within close proximity of Ear Falls. Ear Falls itself is situated on the English River just west of the northern extremity of Lac Seul, the second largest lake in Ontario. These natural waterways have made Ear Falls a hub of activity since mankind first inhabited the area and remain a constant source of beauty and adventure. Arrowheads and fragments of clay pottery that date back several thousand years can still be found on local beaches. Many such artifacts are displayed at the museum in Ear Falls - a definite "must stop and visit".

The area has a very colourful past and owes its early prosperity to gold mining and freighting services. A hydro dam was built in 1929 by Ontario Hydro and by 1946 a permanent community was established to accommodate hydro workers. Iron ore mining in the late 60's led to the growth of a small but modern community.

Visitors to Ear Falls can expect a wide range of services - from motel accommodation, restaurants, and basic shopping needs to a travel trailer dumping facility, medical clinic, laundromat, marina, charter air service, souvenir, bait and tackle shops. Recreation facilities include a challenging nine-hole golf course, alpine ski hill and cross country ski trails, snow machine TOPS trail, with the worlds longest snowmobile bridge and a fully equipped fitness centre arena.

A 1200 meter (4000 ft.) paved airport is located 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) north of Ear Falls, equipped with landing lights activated on 122.8 NBD 242.204 KHz. Tiedowns, aviation fuel and minor services are available as well as a terminal building.

A wide range of resorts, from rustic to deluxe surround Ear Falls. The resorts offer cabin accommodations, as well as trailer and tent facilities. Pakwash Provincial Park, just 12 miles north of Ear Falls also offers tent and trailer facilities.

If you are looking for fresh air and lots of space filled almost wholly with clean water, trees, flowers and wildlife along with great fishing opportunities, friendly courteous service, and all the necessary conveniences nearby, it's right here in Ear Falls. Come and visit your friendly neighbours in the near North.
